RNA – In an interview with Rasa News Agency, Ayatollah Sayyed Ahmad Alamolhoda, the Friday prayer leader of Mashhad, referred to Iranian president Hassan Rouhani’s new nominee to the post of the Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Fakhroddin Ahmadi-Danesh-Ashtiani. He stated that Mr Danesh-Astiani was against the establishment of the Basij in Iranian universities.

Ayatollah Alamolhoda said that when he was an official at Tehran’s Imam Sadiq University,  Danesh-Astiani was the first person to oppose the establishment of the Basij in the university. “Someone who thinks that the presence of the Basij in the universities, which are the centres of the elites of the country, are unnecessary, should not administer a university in this Islamic revolutionary system. In his last will, Imam Khomeini introduced the Basij as the hosts of the Islamic system and of the Islamic Revolution,” he explained.

“We do not know the criteria with which this gentleman choose to accomplish these actions are. He has been presented as a nominee but the lawmakers are responsible before God for their choices,” the revered scholar stated.

Ayatollah Alamolhoda emphasized that revolutionary students should be able express their views in accordance with the interests of their country and preserve its ideals.

He stated that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei) has determined the role of university students. The role of university students, especially religious organizations, is to be idealists – meaning during such events in which religious ideals are at stake, they should stand up and resist and seek that which is ideal for the students.

In conclusion, Ayatollah Alamolhoda, reaffirmed the importance of the protection of idealism among university students. He stated that the parliament and government should make decisions with the aspirations of the students on campus in mind.
