RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon in the north-western Iranian city of Orumieh (Urmia), Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Mahdi Qoreyshi spoke of the importance the message of Ashura has in this current era.
Hujjat al-Islam Qoreyshi referred to the uprising of Imam Husayn, saying that on the day of the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, his family and companions the Umayyad oppressors went above and beyond oppressing this Infallible Imam.
He pointed out that the anniversary of the takeover of the American embassy in Tehran and the day of Ashura occurred on the same day this year. Hujjat al-Islam Qoreyshi explained the day of Ashura is an example of oppression and cruelty and the takeover of the American embassy symbolizes the fight against the global arrogance. Imam Khomeini described this event as “a second revolution and stated that it represented the aspirations of the uprising of Imam Husayn.
Hujjat al-Islam Qoreyshi pointed out that in the Quran God says: “Do not reveal your secrets to the enemy and do not trust them,” and stressed that in the current era, the main enemy of Muslims is the United States and Israel. Killing Muslims in order to destroy Islam is the sole purpose of the oppressors.
He said the recent remarks of President Barack Obama wherein he discussed the necessity of reaching an agreement with Iran regarding its nuclear program. He said that Iran cannot believe the baseless and vain comments and absurd illusions of this oppressive nation.
Hujjat al-Islam Qoreyshi explained that the cultural and politics of the Zionist regime and the United States are a continuation of the bloodthirsty culture of the evil Umayyad caliph Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah. The US and Israel can never be compatible with Muslims and their enmity is apparent to Muslims. Thus, the ability of Muslims to trust them is illogical.
Referring to the lessons of freedom and standing up against oppression which the story of Ashura brought to humanity, Hujjat al-Islam Qoreyshi stated that Imam Husayn’s stance against oppression is one of the greatest lessons of Ashura doers because the Imam, along with his family and companions, did not surrender to the forces of Yazid despite the great odds against them.
In regards to the recent aggression against al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli regime, he explained that the Palestinian people have requested help from all Muslims and stated that it is obligatory upon all Muslims to stand up against this oppression and not to remain silent and indifference to the situation of our brothers and sisters in faith as it is against Islam.
