Rasa - Lebanon's Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah says the resistance had the upper hand against the ISIL in Syria and the terrorist group will never be able to take control of the country.

RNA - Nasrallah said ISIL militants, who are currently wreaking havoc on Syria and Iraq, have no future and will definitely be defeated.

“Syria was waiting to face what is happening from massacres in Mosul and Anbar [Iraq] ... As we enter the fourth year of the Syrian conflict, the Takfiris have not yet been able to control Syria,” Nasrallah said in an address on the occasion of Ashura, marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH), the third Shia imam.

Nasrallah stressed that what is happening in Syria was a “great victory so that the [Middle East] region would not fall in the hands of the [militants].”

“We are part of this battle waged to confront the biggest danger facing the region today,” he said.

Nasrallah said that Syria has not fallen despite plots and efforts by the US and its allies to topple the Damascus government.

ISIL terrorists currently control parts of Syria and Iraq. They have carried out heinous crimes including mass executions and beheadings in the two countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Hezbollah leader touched upon the ongoing Israeli actions on the Palestinian land and slammed Tel Aviv for its settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories and the escalation of violence in the al-Aqsa Mosque.

The mosque, widely revered by Muslims, has been the scene of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli settlers and troops in recent weeks.

Tel Aviv has arrested over a hundred people over the past two weeks after the latest round of protests erupted in the occupied Palestinian territories over restrictions against the access of Muslim worshipers to the al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Hezbollah secretary-general said that Israeli actions are putting the holy site in real danger, calling on all Muslims to defend the mosque against Israel.
