RNA – In the first of a series of Muharram lectures, Hujjat al-Islam Mortaza Agha-Tehrani, a representative for the people of Tehran in the Iranian parliament, said that one of the important features of the Infallible Imams (A) and their followers was their enthusiasm and their steadfastness on the path of God. This quality in Imam Ali (A) caused many to criticize him but he did not fear anyone but God.
The professor of ethics in the Holy Seminary of Qom stated that many American-based satellite channels and websites are meant as a front in the war against Islam. They have create Takfiri groups, such as ISIL, in the name of Islam to provoke Muslims to call each unbelievers and to kill each other. “We need to understand this phenomenon,” Hujjat al-Islam Agha-Tehran stated.
He stated that the late Imam Khomeini and Ayatollah Khamenei are symbols of perseverance in our time. He said during some occasions since the Islamic Revolution incidents have occurred where if we did not have these great leaders, the Islamic Revolution may have been lost. Due to their perseverance in the face of difficulties and criticism, we realize the value of resistance.
Hujjat al-Islam Agha-Tehrani emphasized that weak faith are very bad qualities, especially for the youth. Often due to anger, lust and other bad characteristics one’s faith is weakened and the individual falls into problems.
He emphasized that the intention and aim behind resistance are also very important so that one does not waste his time. Man should spend his life on the path of God and doing that which pleases Him alone. “Those who commit suicide did not understand why they had come into this world,” Hujjat al-Islam Agha-Tehrani stated in reference to those who waste their lives and enjoining vain and purposeless activities instead of seeking the purpose of life.
Hujjat al-Islam Agha-Tehrani said that one of the important features of the martyrs of Karbala was their perseverance on the way outlined by their Imam. “At noon time on the day of Ashura, when Imam Husayn (A) wanted to pray and the enemies did not allow him, two of his dear companions stood in front of him and guarded him from the arrows of the enemy forces. When something is thrown at us, it is natural that we flinch, but the companions of Imam Husayn (A) did not move even when they had arrows hitting them,” he stated.
He emphasized that the stance the Imam (A) took was not easy but it was necessary. “If Imam al-Mahdi (AJ) was to come today would we follow Him? If he had 313 companions like [the 72 that] Imam Husayn (A) did, he would rise,” Hujjat al-Islam Agha-Tehrani stated.
