Qom Nimr protest

RNA – After Friday prayers at the Holy Shrine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’sumah, people in the holy Iranian city of Qom gathered and protested against the Saudi-imposed death sentence on the prominent Shi’ite cleric, Ayatollah Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.

According to Rasa News Agency, the revolutionary and believing people of Qom spontaneously gathered and began shouting slogans against the imperialistic and arrogant nations of the world, showing their hatred of the Western nations such as the United States, Israel and their Arab puppets. Protestors stated that the discriminatory policies against Shi’ites in the Wahhabi kingdom must end. They were especially angry at the death sentence imposed on Ayatollah Nimr.

The protestors included scholars and seminarians, as well as the general non-clerical population of the central Iranian city.

They called on international organizations to condemn the Saudi regime for imposing this oppressive sentence and to pressure them to annul it. Protestors stated that this death sentence, which is reportedly to be accomplished by beheading and crucifixion, is not just against Islamic law, but international law and humanity. Protestors also called on all Muslim scholars around the world to condemn this sentence.

After the protestors shouted slogans against the arrogant and tyrannous nations of the world, a statement was read which warned the Wahhabi regime of the consequences to their regime if they go through with the execution.

On October 15, Ayatollah Nimr was sentenced to death at the Specialized Criminal Court in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The prominent Shi’ite cleric, who was attacked and arrested by Saudi police in July 2012, is accused of delivering anti-regime speeches and defending political prisoners.
