RNA – Ayatollah Bashir an-Najafi, an Indo-Pakistani source of emulation in Iraq, has received Shaykh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i and his entourage in Najaf. Shaykh al-Karbala’i is the representative of Iraq's most senior Shi’ite religious leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali as-Sistani.
Ayatollah an-Najafi emphasized to the delegation the tragedy that Iraq is going through. He explained that he was looking forward to a better situation for Iraq after the former Ba’thist regime of Saddam at-Tikriti was overthrown in 2003, but stated that Iraq has suffered great pain due to foreign-sponsored sectarian conflict and the rise of Takfirism which has led to the displacement and killing of millions of Iraqi civilians.
He pointed out that the enemies of Iraq are trying to sow discord and sectarianism among the people of the country to tear apart its once united people. He stated that the terrorism which has engulfed Iraq has led to differing religious groups to kill each other.
Ayatollah an-Najafi stated that the due to incitements of Takfiri groups such as ISIL, foreign-based terrorists are killing the innocent and unarmed people of Iraq. He called on the Iraqi government act decisively to secure the Iraqi border and confront the Takfiris and prayed for the quick return of security and stability.
Shaykh al-Karbala’i also gave a summary of what is going on in Iraq, and spoke of the bombing, murder and violation of human rights.
