RNA – A group of members of the board of administrators of the Supreme Council of Islamic Wisdom has met with Ayatollah Abdollah Javad-Amoli in Qom. They discussed the importance of Islamic thought revolving around the intellectual traditions of the Ahlul-Bayt (A).
During the meeting, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli remarked upon the history of the study of philosophy in the seminaries. He explained that the chief consideration in Islamic thought is the importance and necessity of the Quran and the Ahlul-Bayt (A). Anything revolves around these “two weighty things.” When we discuss jurisprudence or the principles or of philosophy, they must not be in contradiction to the Quran or the narrations of the Ahlul-Bayt (A).
“It is necessary that all knowledge corresponds with these two axes. Thus, the Quran and the Ahlul-Bayt (A) are the primary sources of knowledge in the seminaries and if our understanding of a subject does not correspond with the Quran and the Ahlul-Bayt (A), we cannot consider our understanding to be correct or acceptable for us,” His Eminence explained.
In another part of his speech, the outstanding exegist of the Holy Quran referred to the position of Islam and the importance of studying and gaining Islamic knowledge. God has stressed that gaining knowledge is a duty incumbent upon mankind. In Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli’s opinion, the most important fields of study in the seminaries are ahkam (jurisprudence/rulings), aqaid (theology) and akhlaq (ethics).
Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli recommended that seminaries consider, research and reflect on the intellectual narrations of the Infallible Imams (A). He explained that rational science is part of the verses and the narrations. By studying these fields, one can strengthen their Islamic knowledge. “By studying Islamic jurisprudence, theology and ethics we can prepare the ground for the creation a new Islamic civilization,” His Eminence explained.
