Rasa News Agency reports – Ayatollah Sayyed Ali-Akbar Qoreyshi, the representative of the province of West Azerbaijan in the Assembly of Experts, has given an interview on the Takfiri menace threatening the stability of the Middle East.

He explained that being a Shi’ite Muslim is not the only criterion for being a victim of Wahhabism and Takfirism. By reviewing history, we see many of the victims of this extremist sect are Sunnis. Thus, one cannot claim that Takfiris, who claim to be Sunni Muslims, are a sect of Islam.
Ayatollah Qoreyshi explained that the misguided Wahhabis are the willing tools of America and the global arrogance. Since the 1970s and 1980s,

Western governments have been working on a project to stir up a widespread fear of Islam and to prevent its spread in the West. To do this, they have proceeded to intimidate the Islamic world. He added that the Islamic State is a branch of al-Qaeda in Iraq, which was founded by Abu Musab az-Zarqawi in 2006.

He explained that these groups claimed that they had entered Iraq in order to fight the Crusaders and NATO. However, since they entered Iraq they have provoked a sectarian war and have caused many of massacres, rather than fight America. They attempted to establish a government in Syria and Iraq, but when they were defeated in Syria, they transferred their terror to Iraq. Since they controlled parts of Syria and Iraq, they claimed that they were able to establish an ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.’ “These terrorists are not Syrian or Iraqi but foreigners,” Ayatollah Qoreyshi added.

“There are about 350 million Shi’ites in the world and all of them are ready to support the Iraqi people and to protect their holy sites there. Six Imams are buried in Iraq. If any of these holy sites are threatened, then all Shi’ites will stand against them and defend their beloved holy sites,” he explained.
