Rasa News Agency reports – Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi has presided over a ceremony marking the beginning of the new educational year for the seminarians of the Islamic Seminary of Tehran. He gave advice to the students on the importance of knowledge and how to be better seminarians who serve God and society.
His Eminence stated that Islam does not just consider education as obligatory but that teaching what one has learned is also compulsory. There are many Quranic verses and narrations about the subject of teaching. He added: “Verily God raises nations by the knowledge and these people are leaders and role models whom we should follow and imitate.”
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi emphasized that Islam is a very logical religion which contains the answers to all questions and can satisfy all doubts. The validity of the issue of imamate is very clear and it is clear that the Ahlul-Bayt (A) are the divinely appointed successors of the Prophet Muhammad.
This grand source of emulation stated that seminarians and religious scholars must maintain the age-old traditions of the Islamic Seminary such as studying ahead, engagement with their teachers, group studying and summarizing their lessons. “These traditions are not found in the university system and we must protect them in our seminaries and not forget their importance,” he said.
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi also warned the seminarians to give importance to studying Islamic ethics and to take these lessons seriously. He warned the students to purify their intentions as it will help them progress. Educating oneself is obligatory and one’s intention should be to guide society.
