RNA – Addressing a large and fervent congregation of people at Tehran University on the first day of Sacred Defence Week, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the temporary Friday prayer leader of Tehran, stated that the coalition posed by the West to face the so-called Islamic State was nothing but a lie and a new form of its scheme to control the Middle East but it will eventually fail.
His Eminence questioned the US’ sincerity in forming a supposed anti-IS coalition, and said, “Who has formed the IS but the US and Israel, as well as Saudi Arabia, which is a branch of the US and Israel? Who gives them such large amounts of money?! Is there anyone who does not know where their weapons come from? They either come directly from the US and Israel or from Saudi Arabia.”
“Are you saying that you want to fight the IS? Everybody knows you are lying,” he later added.
He reiterated that the Americans were not serious about fighting the IS, he said, “The Americans and even IS itself are well aware that the move which broke IS’ backbone in Iraq was not the Americans’ actions but the acts of the popular militias and the Iraqi army who had well learned the ways to fight IS and inflicted heavy damages on the group.”
Ayatollah Jannati underscored that the Iraqi militias and army’s blows to the IS would continue, and said, “The reality is that the Americans are seeking an excuse to do the same actions in Iraq and Syria that they are doing in Pakistan, where they trespass and bomb different parts of that country’s territory without any permission, despite the existence of a sovereign government and a powerful army (in Pakistan).”
He explained that we are witnessing the threats of the enemies who are trying to distort and twist the beliefs of the Muslims and the create an evil to limit the growth of the revolutionary forces in the region.
Ayatollah Jannati also explained that Sacred Defense Week, the anniversary of the war imposed on Iran by the Iraqi Ba’thist regime of Saddam at-Tikriti during the 1980s, commemorates the gift of Iran’s youth to defend their homeland purely for the sake of God. He explained the importance of young people to the principles of the Sacred Defence, saying they fortify the youth against Western culture, and pointed to the role of the media in this regard.
