RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala’s Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn, Hujjat al-Islam Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i said that the most important contemporary dangers and challenges experienced by the youth are the cultural, intellectual and moral invasion that has opened up to young people in the midst of technological development.
The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani in Karbala noted, “Young people with little experience, knowledge and sufficient maturity to appraise life in a precise and complete manner may be tempted and deceived by some of the information and culture obtained through the means of social media.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i referred to the repercussions of the state of frustration, loss, despair and anxiety for young people, as well as physical and emotional destitution and deprivation and said, “If a young man doesn’t find what satisfies these needs, it may lead him to resort to deviant ways.”
His Eminence stressed, “We reject the subordination of the youth in society, which is a serious issue, especially in the fields of work because it will kill them in the ambition and develop the capacity and deprive the community of their abilities and break their psyche and abilities. We must consider how to recruit and pay attention to the abilities of the youth who are at the pinnacle of their lives in order to serve the community and not deprive ourselves of these abilities.”
He continued, “The understanding of children and the youth is that the study and success is necessary but the rest of the principles of faith, social relations, morals, values and other principles must be stopped and they must be given their right to life.”
In conclusion, Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i called on the official, social and family institutions to “pay attention to the youth.”
