According to Rasa News Agency’s correspondent in Najaf, Ayatollah Muhammad al-Yaqoubi, a revered Najaf-based source of emulation, issued a message in which he offered his condolences on the martyrdom of a number of mourners who were killed in a stampede in Karbala on the day of Ashura (September 10th).
At least thirty-one pilgrims lost their lives and dozens more sustained injuries in a stampede during the Muslim religious rituals of Ashura in the Iraqi city of Karbala, the Iraqi Health Ministry said.
In the message, His Eminence said, “We offer our condolences on the deaths of more than thirty people and the injury of more than one-hundred mourners of Imam al-Husayn who were killed during the Rakdhah al-Tuwayrij [Tuwayrij run] ceremony near the entrance of the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn on the day of Ashura.”
Ayatollah al-Yaqoubi prayed to God Almighty to grant mercy and the highest ranks to the martyrs of this tragedy and for the quick healing of the wounded.
