One of the sources of emulation in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf reiterated that the Muharram mourning ceremonies for Imam al-Husayn must be free from any form of deviation.

RNA – In a message on the occasion of the beginning of the solemn month of Muharram addressed to the missionaries, speakers and mourners of Imam al-Husayn, Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi said, “The authenticity of the gatherings commemorating Imam al-Husayn must be protected and be distanced from any materialistic and political purpose.”

The revered Najaf-based source of emulation said, “Imam al-Husayn gave his holy life in the way of God Almighty and in ascertainment of his divine duty, that is enjoining the good and forbidding the wrong. Therefore, the speakers and missionaries have a duty to pay great attention to the following matters.”

1. Remembering the tragedy of Imam al-Husayn and what happened to the Ahl al-Bayt and their companions and their family members must be protected and passed on to future generations. We must familiarize the people with the importance of holding mourning ceremonies for Imam al-Husayn.

2. We must know that the Master of the Martyrs [Imam al-Husayn] gave everything he had in the way of religion and therefore, it’s obligatory on us to protect our religion and religious rituals and practices and to prioritize praying at the beginning of the appointed times of prayer and to protect the hijab as much as possible.

3. Mourning ceremonies for Imam al-Husayn must be distanced from any materialistic and political purpose and poems must be stay within the limits of religious boundaries.

4. Efforts must be taken so that the people give special attention to the revival of religious rituals and practices, especially on the days of Ashura and Arba’in.
