Lebanese Sunni Cleric:
Rasa - "Many non-Muslims love Imam al-Husayn and consider him as their role-model,” a Lebanese Sunni cleric said.
Shaykh Suhayb Habli

RNA – Speaking at a mourning ceremony for Imam al-Husayn in al-Aaqabiyah, near Sidon, Shaykh Suhayb Habli, a member of the Assembly of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon, said “It is natural that every true Muslim loves Imam al-Husayn. Upon the basis of the verses of the Holy Quran and the narrations of the Prophet Muhammad, Muslims who have not been influenced by the Wahhabi ideology have realized the greatness of the Ahlul-Bayt, especially Imam al-Husayn.”

The Lebanese Sunni cleric added, “The Prophet Muhammad said that ‘Husayn is from me and I am from Husayn and God loves him who loves Husayn.’ This is the best reason to love this Imam. Meanwhile, many non-Muslims love Imam al-Husayn and consider him as their role-model.”

He said, “For this reason, non-Muslims have come to Imam al-Husayn with such a kind of love, kindness and respect and his movement has been well-studied and influential.”

Shaykh Habli referred to the fact that the patience and humanity of Imam al-Husayn are the most important issues that non-Muslims are influenced by and said, “Patience means observing the beauty of the path of tragedy. It was upon this basis that Lady Zaynab, the daughter of Imam Ali and Lady Fatimah, stated in regard to the tragedy of Karbala, ‘I have seen nothing but beauty.’ This is the patience that Imam al-Husayn passed through at the highest levels and through which he was able to influence his enemies.”

His Eminence continued, “The Imam interacted with his family and companions in the same way and just as he influenced his children, he influenced his African slaves and just as he engaged in assisting his family, he helped his companions.”

The head of the Ulfah Society of Lebanon noted that that the fact that Imam al-Husayn did not initiate the war with the enemies is a symbol of his humanity and said, “This is the rule that his grandfather, the Prophet Muhammad al-Mustafa, and also Imam Ali adhered to because they sought to guide the enemies. It was for this reason that the Imam spoke to the enemies on the basis of reason and logic.”

Shaykh Habli described another aspect of the humanity of Imam al-Husayn, saying “The departure of Imam al-Husayn from Makkah to prevent his murder by the enemies in the House of God [Ka’bah] is another dimension of his humanity. Imam al-Husayn strongly strove to protect the sanctity of the Ka’bah and did not want people to be killed in this holy place.”

In conclusion, His Eminence said, “This is while Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah did not give any respect to the sanctity of the Ka’bah and burned it with a catapult. The Al Saud also uses the Ka’bah today to harm Islamic societies.”
