RNA – Speaking in a virtual conference entitled “With Peace Against the Occupation” at the invitation of Shaykh Mahmoud al-Habbash, Shaykh Dr. Shawqi Alam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, stressed that now is the best time to recognize the historical and religious right of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the historical and religious capital of Palestine.”
The chairman of the World Fatwa Committee pointed out, “In the first stage, the desire, affection, and affection of many generations of Muslims for the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy city of al-Quds is a matter of religion and faith. al-Aqsa Mosque, like the Ka’bah and the Prophet’s Mosque, has the dignity of a place. Muslims value divine rites and prophetic sanctities and al-Aqsa Mosque is one of those sanctuaries.”
He added, “We have repeatedly stated that no matter how much sedition and events overtake us, we will never give up our hearts and souls on the issue of Palestine and the holy city of al-Quds. Muslims’ interest in the holy city of al-Quds isn’t only a result of emotion, temporary epics or fleeting emotions, but also a religious, sectarian, political, partisan and moral duty.”
Shaykh Alam considered religious feelings and emotions to be constructive and said, “Goodness and blessings don’t descend on a heart where there isn’t any divine love and such people, after achieving their personal goals and interests, retreat from the ideals of al-Quds and Palestine after a while.”
The Egyptian Sunni cleric pointed out, “It’s desirable to have religious feelings and emotions, provided that it arises from knowledge, awareness and wisdom. People who are attracted to extremist and terrorist groups use the concept of jihad to achieve their political goals and personal interests.”
He stated that by separating the path of true Muslims and Islam from the demonstrators and traders of the Deal of the Century and explained, “Our love for al-Quds must become a practical program for awakening consciences and returning Palestine to its true place in the Islamic world and the Arab-Islamic culture through education.”
In conclusion, Shaykh Alam stated, “The issue of Palestine hasn’t been the first issue of the Islamic-Arab ummah and has never been the issue of a specific nation or a specific movement. The indifference, negligence and weakness towards the holy city of al-Quds is a betrayal of Islam, Arab history, religion and Islamic identity.”
