On April 29th, Ayatollah Khamenei donated approximately 4.5 billion rials to help free ‎prisoners of unintentional crimes, according to the managing-general of Iran’s Diya ‎Headquarters.‎

RNA – On April 29th, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali ‎Khamenei, donated approximately 4.5 billion rials ($27,658 US at today’s rate) to help free ‎prisoners of unintentional crimes, according to the managing-general of Iran’s Diya ‎Headquarters.‎

Asadollah Joulayei said that as the Coronavirus pandemic continues in the country, charity ‎ceremonies to collect money for unintentional crime prisoners, regularly held every year ‎during the holy month of Ramadan, were not held this year.‎

He, however, noted that this tradition was not neglected and the donations were collected ‎online.‎

Ayatollah Khamenei have donated some 25 billion rials ($153,657 US at today’s rate) to ‎unintentional crime prisoners over the past decade which has helped release more than 700 ‎prisoners who were serving their prison terms because of diya (blood money) sentences due ‎to traffic accidents, the official said.‎
