RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala’s Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn, Hujjat al-Islam Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i referred to the dangers that are threatening Iraqi society, in particular the youth, and said, “The youth should appreciate the blessings of their youth and not waste their holidays in vain.”
The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani in Karbala added, “Satellite television programs, virtual networks and attractive electronic games have engrossed our youth from dawn until night and their growth and development have become discontinued.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i described the university students as the future of the country and said, “We are witnessing the closure of schools and universities, and in some areas, students are passing their final days of examinations, which means that the months of effort, study, thinking and preparation of millions of students for the future have come to an end.”
His Eminence considered the period of youth as a period of thought, progress, creation and innovation, and said, “The youth must take advantage of this stage of their lives. Some of these holidays are used correctly and others are harmful. For four months every year, students from elementary school to university have holidays, while they are preparing for the future of the country.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i described holidays as a blessing for students to use to grow their character and added, “School lessons aren’t enough to build a successful human being who can take on different responsibilities. Therefore, if his character isn’t formed correctly, he will face a variety of problems in the future.”
