RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala’s Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn, Hujjat al-Islam Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i said that the Islamic political system must be a source of mercy and added, “The ruler must be merciful and just.”
The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani in Karbala stressed that the phenomenon of suicide in Iraq indicates that there is a defect and corruption in the society and in the institutions of the state and said, “The most terrible crime against the rights of mankind is to deprive oneself of the right to life. We must protect the community against these kinds of problems.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i said, “Some assume that the solution to any life or psychological crisis or for a student who failed a test or a man who hasn’t found employment is suicide. This indicates an imbalance in society and in the institutions of the state.”
His Eminence said that one must be merciful to himself and added, “One of the symptoms of mercilessness to the self is suicide.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i stressed the need to pay attention to building values and morals for mankind and explained, “It’s important for politicians to be merciful and to place public political interests over personal interests.”
