RNA – In an exclusive interview with Rasa News Agency, Hujjat al-Islam Ahad Azadikhah, the spokesman for the Cultural Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, referred to the state of the country and said, “Given the current situation, we see that the accession to the Convention on Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) has the supporters and opponents in the country.”
The Iranian cleric and politician added that the claim of the supporters is that only through commitment to the CFT can the Islamic Republic of Iran continue its monetary and banking transactions internationally and stated, “The question is, the representatives of the supporters of the CFT must clearly tell the people that if Iran joins this convention, becomes a member or commits to it, what is the main difference between becoming a member and committing to it?”
Hujjat al-Islam Azadikhah continued, “Firstly, the members of a convention have the right to vote, while countries that merely commit have no right to vote. The fact is that only the 36 countries that originally became parties to this convention have the right to vote and the rest of the countries are not entitled to membership and as a result, by joining it, Iran has only committed itself.”
He added, “Given that the blue conditions of the CFT will not be heated for the Iranian people and these colourful and beautiful slogans on economic openness, the opening of the level of credit in banks and the formation of a business that the CFT advocates are the only slogans.”
