RNA – Following the placing of the bill on the “Accession of Iran to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)” on the agenda of the Islamic Consultative Assembly on October 7th, the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom wrote a letter in which they called on the chairman, Ali Larijani, and the representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly to take the guidelines of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, and other high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic into account and not to take any action which harms the country and the Islamic system of government in the Islamic Consultative Assembly by ratifying this convention.
Iran entered into talks with the G7-created FATF to join the body following the January 2016 implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries.
On June 30, the FATF said Iran had until October to complete reforms that would “bring it into line with global norms or face consequences.”
The text of this aforementioned letter, which was signed by the head of the Supreme Council of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi, is as follows:
In the Name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Mr. Ali Larijani, chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and the representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly
