Ayatollah Sobhani:
Rasa – The revered source of emulation referred to the special role of al-Mustafa International University in the correct transmission of the message of Islam and Shi’ism to the world and stressed, “The professors and management of this academic centre must endeavour to ensure that the seminarians of this centre are the missionaries of the message of Shi’ism and Islamic Revolution.”
RNA – Speaking at a ceremony marking the beginning of the school year at al-Mustafa International University’s Imam Khomeyni Specialized University campus in Qom, Ayatollah Ja’far Sobhani said, “There is no doubt that one of the foundations of Islam is missionary work and this has been able to advance Islam.”
The revered source of emulation argued that military power is only to break the barriers and noted, “In fact, many people have become religious due to the logic of Islam, which is why today, many people from India, Indonesia and other countries have been willing to become Muslim.”
He said, “Missionaries must first be built in order to be effective. Self building also contains two stages: the first stage is knowledge – in order to reach the point where one can transmit religious matters issue and the issue requires the understanding of the book [Holy Quran] and the sunnah [tradition of the Prophet Muhammad] and jurisprudential and theological books.”
Ayatollah Sobhani emphasized that many people, including the youth, want to understand the rationality of Islam with their wisdom and said, “Here, the importance of theology and the rational sciences is evident along with the recognizing the time. With each book and subject matter, we cannot do missionary work because many old and new books have a lot of mortar and material but many of them are different in terms of impact, which must be taken into consideration by the seminarians.”
The teacher in the Islamic Seminary of Qom said, “Today, the internet, in addition to being a means of goodness, has also became an evil instrument, and many opponents of religion use this tool to promote their evil thoughts. Therefore, al-Mustafa International University must train its scholars in such a way that they can be effective against these dangers in their countries.”
He stated, “The program of Iranian seminarians differs from the foreign students’ program, although they have common ground. Therefore, seminarians at al-Mustafa must pay more attention to religious teachings, beliefs and Islamic history. For example, non-Iranian scholars must be trained in such a way as to be able to deliver an Arabic-language sermon well.”
Ayatollah Sobhani stated that in the future, seminarians from al-Mustafa will continue to transmit the message of Shi’ism and rationality to the world and said, “It’s one of your duties to try to preserve the faith of the people and, if people around the world have gained insight, they won’t become deviated again.”
