RNA – In a meeting with Hujjat al-Islam Mostafa Rostami, the head of the Institution Representation the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the Universities, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi stated, “The university system came from the West and its founders in our country intended to separate the academic field from the religious field and educate the people who don’t have a lot of religious beliefs.”
The revered source of emulation said, “At the same time, one can’t deny the existence of the university in the country because knowledge is a necessity and we never eliminate the university but its problems must be corrected.”
He said, “The West has tried to embed its culture into university courses and pass it on to us, especially in books that have aspect of translation and this can be seen clearly.”
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi emphasized, “You must carefully examine the books that have a aspect of translation and remove the Western and secular culture which are included in them.”
The teacher of jurisprudence in in the Islamic Seminary of Qom said, “The future of the country in the hands of those who come from the university and the seminary and if there isn’t harmony between them and they aren’t united, when one enters into the organization, duality is created. Therefore, these two institutions must be more closely connected.”
He added, “To be sure that the university is moving in the direction of Islam, attention must be given to the teacher, the textbook and the program is very necessary and essential.”
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi stated, “Foreigners are both sensitive and active in both universities and the seminaries and in a variety of ways, since the internet is trying to isolate the two. Therefore, you need to be sensitive to it. With the existence of the internet, this is a bit of a problem and unfortunately the government is not very sensitive to the internet.”
