RNA – Ayatollah Sayyed Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi, the chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with members of the assembly today.
At the beginning of this meeting, Ayatollah Hashemi-Shahroudi celebrated the epic and majestic presence of the great nation of Iran on the occasion of International al-Quds Day and said, “The various religious programs and ceremonies during the holy month of Ramadhan, especially the al-Quds Day march this year, have been more magnificent than before, which explains the depth of belief and the attachment of our beloved people to the supreme values and ideals of the Islamic Revolution and the honourable path of Imam Khomeyni is very important.”
The Iranian politician and cleric also pointed to the recent American withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying, “The President of the United States [Donald Trump] is an unbalanced and cowardly figure who tries to pursue his financial and economic desires in the region through a businessman-like approach and false structures, such as Iranophobia, while such unreasonable behaviour in the face of international treaties has further undermined the credibility in the country and caused the distrust in the United States around the world.”
He added, “The Iranian people are unique in their insight and vigilance and like his predecessors, Trump will be undoubtedly defeated through the morale and persistence of the people on their values.”
Ayatollah Hashemi-Shahroudi said that unity and adherence to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei] and day-to-day efforts have become an important task of the country’s officials given the current situation and added, “The way to deal with the evilness of the enemies is through solidarity and cooperation, accurate observation of the conditions, conscientiousness in the face of conspiracies and further efforts to offer services to the dear people, especially in solving the economic and livelihood problems.”
His Eminence presented a report on the activities of the committees of the Expediency Council and the Supreme Council of Planning to formulate and propose eight general policy titles in the current session of the Expediency Council and added, “In the discussion of the surveillance of general policy in regard to the duties assigned by the Supreme Leader to the Expediency Council, the Supreme Supervisory Board has approved the implementation of general policies of the Resistance Economy as its first priority, and in eight sessions so far, this subject has been reviewed.”
According to this report, in today’s meeting of the Expediency Council, the request of the Headquarters for Combating Drugs in regard to the elimination of three cases of deficiencies in the anti-narcotics law adopted by the Expediency Council was discussed and, after discussion and review, the continuation of the addressment of the issues raised for the final decision was postponed to future meetings.
