RNA – In an interview with the Rasa News Agency, Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad Zare-Foumani, the secretary-general of the Popular Party of Reforms, criticized the writing of a petition by some reformists and the opposition calling for direct dialogue with the United States and considered it a “mistake,” saying, “Those who are outside the country and who have fled have specific positions and among them are those who seek to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran and who have repeatedly sent petitions and letters to the United Nations and other international organizations to ask for help in overthrowing this government.”

The Iranian cleric and politician continued, “The signing of such a petition by a handful of people from inside the country is indicative of their ignorance and illiteracy and they didn’t weigh the consequences. It must be asked, what kind of country has the United States been? [American president Donald] Trump is not anything different from American politics. Before this, they have already negotiated with the United States and they have not been committed to their promises and have been disloyal.”

Hujjat al-Islam Zare-Foumani added, “I am sorry for these people who claim to be politicians and have signed this petition which challenges the country and causes duplicity or which causes issues such as sanctions in the future.”

His Eminence said writing such a petition is considered as cooperation and collaboration with the enemies and added, “What negotiations can we engage in with the enemies of the country who publicly say that they are working to overthrow the Islamic Republic? You want to ask those who have removed their swords from their scabbards against you what they have done for you?”

He said that the work of these individuals is completely wrong and that they must apologize to the Islamic Revolution, the Imam [Khomeyni], the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei] and the people of Iran for writing this petition. This is a clear betrayal.

In response to a question from Rasa News Agency’s correspondent about whether the petition could be recorded on the reformists’ record, Hujjat al-Islam Zare-Foumani said, “I do not consider these individuals reformers. Someone who seeks to overthrow the government is not a reformer. They are those who have signed this petition to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran many times.”

He added, “Those who seek to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Revolution are not reformers and I do not consider them as reformists.”
