RNA – In an exclusive interview with Reza News Agency, Hujjat al-Islam Javad Mojtahed-Shabestari, a representative of the people of West Azerbaijan province in the Assembly of Experts, said, “The withdrawal of the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will not bring any harm to the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The senior Iranian cleric said, “The enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran are trying to persuade people that the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA will provide the means for military confrontation between the United States and Iran.”
Emphasizing that the United States is not in a position to pursue a war with Iran, Hujjat al-Islam Mojtahed-Shabestari added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is a powerful country with high defensive capabilities. The United States would have attacked Iran a long time ago if it could have.”
Referring to the need to maintain national unity and solidarity, the teacher in the Islamic Seminary of Qom said, “Various officials, institutions and organizations must be united in such a way that only one voice from the country reaches the ears of the people.”
His Eminence said, “All people and officials must act in accordance with the agenda of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei] and confront those who seek to disrupt national unity.”
“Without doubt, the Islamic Republic of Iran has many options against the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA and, whenever it is necessary, will work mutually,” he added.
Noting that the United States has never adhered to its commitments, Hujjat al-Islam Mojtahed-Shabestari said, “The JCPOA was a lesson to the people and officials that they must never trust the enemies with simple thinking.”
He continued, saying, “Unfortunately, Iran fulfilled all its obligations without attention to the actions of the United States, while the nuclear negotiators had to adjust the JCPOA in such a way that the Islamic Republic of Iran, simultaneously with the opposing parties, fulfills its obligations.”
Speaking in the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House in Washington, DC, on May 8, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced his decision to withdraw the United States from the nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries and to re-impose sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
