RNA – In an exclusive interview with Reza News Agency, Hujjat al-Islam Javad Mojtahed-Shabestari, a representative of the people of West Azerbaijan province in the Assembly of Experts, said, “In his statements, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei] has repeatedly considered aristocracy and the tendency towards a luxurious lifestyle to be blights against the Islamic Revolution and has called them ‘reactionary.’”

The senior Iranian cleric argued that being reactionary is strongly contradictory to the goals of the Islamic Revolution and noted that there was an spirit of excessiveness, aristocracy and luxuriousness in the past and among the officials of the oppressive Pahlavi monarchy. If it is supposed today that the authorities of the country had such a spirit, it would naturally be reactionary and would be a return to the past, which, from the Islamic point of view, is an depreciative trait.”

“According to the commands of Imam Ali in Nahj al-Balaghah, God Almighty has made it obligatory upon the leaders and authorities of the country to compare themselves with the lower classes of society,” Hujjat al-Islam Mojtahed-Shabestari stressed.

Noting that the fight against corruption and aristocracy were among of the most important goals of the Islamic Revolution, he said, “The spirit of aristocracy and luxuriousness is considered as among the blights and threats to the Islamic Revolution and therefore, it is essential to be deal with it quickly.”

The teacher in the Islamic Seminary stated, “In order to confront the spirit of aristocracy and luxuriousness, it is imperative for the authorities to present a complete and comprehensive report on issues such as the astronomical salaries that the Supreme Leader and many people have demanded.”

Referring to the origin of the arrogant spirit and excesses among some officials, Hujjat al-Islam Mojtahed-Shabestari pointed out, “Certainly, those who have not educated themselves in regards to Islamic and divine customs, worship and obedience to the commandments of religion will not remain in their hearts and as a result, moral adversity will develop in them.”
