RNA – Speaking at an ethics lesson at the Office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Khamenei] in Qom on Wednesday evening, Ayatollah Mohammad-Tagi Mesbah-Yazdi referred to the factors in the perfection of faith as seen in the hadiths (narrations) and said, “According to the narrations, man must be careful that his satisfaction and wrath do not leave the circuit of truth.”
The head of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom added, “The requirement of faith is that if a person obtains power, he must not do everything that he desires but rather he must act in accordance with the divine orders and serve society. That a person fulfills his duties to God and the divinely-ordained commands and does not fear any sort of reproach is a sign of perfection in faith.”
He stated that the person who fulfills his duties and commands to God must not be afraid of being reproached by others and noted, “If the faith of a person is complete, just as his life and property will not be an obstacle to the performance of his duties, the reproach of the people will also not have an affect.”
Ayatollah Mesbah-Yazdi continued, “Man must perform his duties in accordance with the commands of the Holy Quran and the Ahlul-Bayt. Other characteristics of the perfection of faith include the fulfillment of duties with the purpose of satisfying God Almighty and not with the intention of ostentation.”
The member of the community of Qom Seminary Teachers stated that a believer strives for both this world and the hereafter and stated, “Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq said that person’s faith will not be complete unless he recognizes his religious duties, has dedication to his livelihood and has patience in the face of hardship and tribulations.”
He said, “Man must not suspend his whole life due to one tragedy or difficulty but rather he must have patience. Not all of man’s desires are compatible with religion but religion has given permission in some cases. If a believer has correct faith in situations where religion has not given permission, he must control his desires and follow his religion.”
Ayatollah Mesbah-Yazdi emphasized that the people must only place their trust in God Almighty and noted, “If a person trusts in God, it will suffice for him. Of course, this does not mean that he is not trying but there are means that must be accomplished.”
