RNA – During his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi city of Najaf’s al-Fatimiyah Husayniyah, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Sadruddin al-Qubanchi referred to recent remarks by Douglas Silliman, the American ambassador to Iraq, and said the invitation of the Sunnis to participate in the elections and any political change through the ballot boxes is a good move.
Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held on May 12th.
The Iraq Shi’ah cleric added, “According to what some news agencies have stated, the American ambassador has called for the overthrow of the Shi’ah-led government in Iraq and the establishment of a Sunni government, we strongly condemn such statements, if they are true.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Qubanchi stated, “All Iraqis, including Sunnis, have the right to participate in the upcoming elections and we believe in majority rule.”
His Eminence continued, “Iraq has achieved significant success in the political arena and friendly countries respect the will of the Iraqi people.”
In response to a Saudi action to donate a football stadium to Iraq, he said, “Iraq needs a friendly country to respect its people and avoid engaging in hostility with them. Unfortunately, we have witnessed the opening of Saudi Arabia’s airspace to the occupying Zionist regime.”
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has promised to build Iraq a football stadium in Baghdad capable of holding about 135,000 people and making it the biggest in the world.
Hujjat al-Islam al-Qubanchi said that Saudi Arabia has a training program for Takfiris and added, “Saudi Arabia must abandon its ethnic-based actions and support for the Takfiris. We hope that Saudi Arabia will benefit from Iraq’s experience in overcoming Takfirism and ethnic issues.”
