RNA - Addressing a large and fervent congregation of the people in Tehran on Friday, Ayatollah Khatami said, "There needs to be consensus among Iranian officials to reject any negotiation on or amendment to the nuclear deal."
"There won't be any further negotiation on the JCPOA and this is the ultimate and final decision and strategy of the Islamic Republic (of Iran)," he added.
Ayatollah Khatami also pointed to Iran's missile capabilities, and said, "The western countries are trying to weaken Iran's defensive and missile capabilities, so that the occupying Zionist regime remains safe."
He reiterated that Iran will not negotiate again on its defense and missile programs with any party, and will not allow any state to meddle in the issue.
Iran and the six world powers signed the nuclear agreement, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July 2015. Under the agreement, Iran accepted to curb its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief.
US President Donald Trump since his inauguration as the successor of Barack Obama has threatened that he would either kill the JCPOA or make some changes in the deal.
