Rasa – The General Secretariat of the Arab Parties’ Conference stressed that the Al Khalifah regime is seeking to execute the secretary general of the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society in Bahrain.
RNA – The General Secretariat of the Arab Parties’ Conference has strongly criticized the political and procedural trial of Hujjat al-Islam Ali Salman, the secretary general of the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society in Bahrain.
Hujjat al-Islam Salman is being tried on charges of colluding with the kingdom’s Gulf rival Qatar to overthrow the Sunni minority government.
The cleric has been behind bars since 2014, serving a nine-year sentence for allegedly inciting hatred.
The secretariat stressed that the trial of Hujjat al-Islam Salman was a new attempt to keep the cleric in jail and to issue horrible sentences against him which are close to the death penalty.
The report goes on to say, “This trial, which has been strongly condemned, is another reason for the persistence of the [Al Khalifah] regime to repress the Bahraini people and an attempt to settle with the opposing political groups over the dubious role of the Bahraini regime and its efforts to normalize relations with the Zionist regime.”
The General Secretariat of the Arab Parties’ Conference said the formal trials and false accusations against activists in Bahrain and the targeting of prominent opposition figures, such as Hujjat al-Islam Salman, the house arrest imposed on Hujjat al-Islam Isa Qasim, and the revocation of the citizenship from a large number of citizens cannot prevent the Bahraini people from continuing on their path to realize their legitimate demands for freedom.
Referring to the determination of the Bahraini people in regard to the issue of Palestine, the secretariat added, “We call on various Arab and Islamic parties and groups to establish an immediate movement to defend the Bahraini people and its political societies.”
Bahrain continues to be the scene of anti-regime protests on an almost daily basis, as people in the Persian Gulf kingdom gear up to mark the seventh anniversary of their uprising.
Although the rallies against the Al Khalifah dynasty, which started in mid-February 2011, are in the form of peaceful pro-democracy protests, the regime has utilized a constant heavy-handed crackdown against demonstrators.
