Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani:
Rasa – Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani described the people of Qom in defense of the revolution and said, “The enemies have plans for us every day so we must be awake and stand against them.”
Ayatollah‌ ‌Nouri-Hamadani
RNA – Speaking with the Coordinating Council of the Islamic Propagation Office of the Islamic Seminary of Qom, Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Nouri-Hamadani offered his congratulations on the “Ten Days of Insight” and the covenant of the ummah with wilayah [guardianship] and referring to the Holy Quran, said, “The Noble Prophet [Muhammad] stood up against the powers of the world with a cultural, social and economic uprising until the rulers of the Roman and Persian empires were humbled by this uprising. Prophets such as Abraham and Moses revolted against the rulers of their times, and in some cases nobody helped them.”

The revered source of emulation continued, “The Purified Imams also pursued uprisings and the greatness and historicity of the Companions of the Cave was also due to their uprising against the oppressors. Today, the movement of Imam al-Husayn is also resonating in history due to the uprising of Ashura.”

Referring to numerous narrations and historical books about Qom, he said, “The people of Qom are special people, Qom is the shrine and the nest of the Ahlul-Bayt and its root of Qom comes the word ‘qiyam’ [uprising]. In the narrations, the uprising of Qom is mentioned. However, we cannot only consider those who were born in Qom as the ‘people of Qom’ but anyone who lives in Qom and lives with the culture of the Imams and Lady Fatimah al-Ma’sumah is from Qom and according to the interpretation of the narrations, is one of the ‘people of Qom.’”

Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani remembered the uprising of 9 January 1978 in Qom and referring to the meeting with the scholars of that time in support of Imam Khomeyni, said, “SAVAK engaged in wicked actions due to the popular support for Imam Khomeyni and we couldn’t sit silent over the events of that day. We thought of closing down the bazaar and the Islamic Seminary, setting up gatherings and assemblies and went to the streets.”

His Eminence continued, “Through the dissemination in the mosques and passages on the eve of the 9th of January, the people of Qom gathered together and we came to the streets and protested over the insults published against Imam Khomeyni in a newspaper and we performed our duties.”

The 9 January 1978 protest in the holy city of Qom was against a libelous story about Imam Khomeyni. Opposition to this article culminated in the uprising by the people of Qom during which a number of revolutionary religious students were killed. Once again the uprising had begun in Qom and within a short space of time had spread to the rest of the country.

Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani considered the people of Qom’s defense of the Islamic Revolution as a role model and said, “In recent days, everyone from Qom has learned how to come to the defense of the Islamic Revolution because every day the enemies have plans for us and we also must be awake and stand against them.”

The revered source of emulation said, “The system of guardianship and the Ahlul-Bayt have power. This system can gather up to 30 million people in Arba’in. What other power can bring such a large number of people together in a moment?”

In conclusion, he addressed the Iranian people and said, “Don’t forget the time that you were under British and the American hegemony. Now the oppressed people of the world are with you. Now there is no government like Iran’s government in the world. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution also leads the country with its power.”
