RNA – According to Rasa News Agency, Grand Ayatollah Mohammad-Sa’id al-Hakim, one of the prominent sources of emulation based in the holy city of Najaf, issued a statement in which he harshly condemned the recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime by the administration of the United States.

“Such action is insulting and would provoke feelings of Palestinians as well as millions of Muslims around the world,” the statement reads.

Ayatollah al-Hakim stated, “All Islamic countries, especially those who support terrorism, must reconsider their behaviour and improve their peaceful relations with one another. Surely this would benefit the interest of the religion [of Islam] and genuine values.”

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, sparked international outrage on December 6th, when he declared that the US was recognizing Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel and that he had instructed his administration to begin the process of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the ancient city.

The dramatic shift in Washington’s Jerusalem al-Quds policy triggered demonstrations in the occupied Palestinian territories, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco and other Muslim countries.
