RNA - Sheikh Ibrahim Lawan, one of the leaders of the movement made the plea while addressing newsmen at Faudiyya Center in Potiskum town preparatory to the Arbaeen commemoration, Daily Post reported.
“We see this as a violation of our human right, considering the fact that the constitution of Nigeria has allowed every citizen to worship freely without intimidation and harassment. Islam is our religion which we chose to belong”, he said.
He recall that al-Zakzaky was arrested in December after over 300 members of his group were killed for blocking a road in Kaduna being plied by the motorcade of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.
“Though some State Governments and the Federal Government have been plotting evil against our peaceful Arbaeen trek and commemoration of Imam Husain (pbuh), we pray that Allah thwart and frustrate their evil plot as he has done in the past.
“We would like to reiterate our demand for the release of our revered leader, Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky who has now spent two good years in an illegal and unconditional detention, despite a valid order from a competent court for his release”.
He added that the group will not rest on our oars until the Sheikh, his wife and others in detention since December 2015 are set free.
The IMN chieftain further stated, “We would like to assure the general public that this year’s Arbaeen trek like those before will be peaceful and devoid of any attempt to curb the right of passage to other highway users.
“Nobody should fear our Arbaeen trek. Love for Imam Hussein (pbuh) is not the exclusive right of Muslims only but for all those who love justice and fight against oppression.
“We once again welcome our Christian Brothers in humanity who have chosen on their own free will to trek with us today. This is not the first time they have identified themselves with Imam Husain, they have done it before and we will thankfully welcome them “.
