RNA – The opening ceremony of the new academic year at Qom’s University of Religions and Denominations was held this week and was widely attended by many Sunni and Shi’ah students. The university president and deans also attended the ceremony.
At this ceremony, Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad-Hoseyn Mokhtari, the president of the University of Religions and Denominations, made some remarks on the university’s duty to stand against ignorant forms of Islam.
Referring to groups and factions that promote their totally wrong and ignorant views of religion as divine teaching in the society, he said, “They introduce Islam to the world as a promoter of extremism and violence, unaware that the religion that the Prophet Muhammad presented to the world invites all people to live a collective life with peace, serenity and tranquility.”
Hujjat al-Islam Mokhtari went on to say, “In such a situation, universities and academic and scientific centres, especially the University of Religions and Denominations, have a great responsibility in this regard.”
