Lebanese Sunni Cleric:
Rasa – Shaykh Suhayb Habli emphasized that it is not permissible to hide Ghadir and referred to Wahhabism as continuing the war against Ahlul-Bayt.

RNA – Speaking at Prophet Ibrahim Mosque in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir, Shaykh Suhayb Habli, a member of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Lebanon, quoted the sermon of the Prophet Muhammad which he delivered at Ghadir Khumm and said, “The Prophet Muhammad never neglected his duties and after the massive gathering of Muslims in the Hajj, he conveyed the principles of religion to the people to eliminate the remains of ignorance in the hearts of the people.”

The Lebanese Sunni cleric added that the Prophet presented a comprehensive sermon, called “The Farewell Sermon” which has become most important document on human rights for the people and is full of justice and equality, saying, “Unfortunately, while we claim to be Muslims, we ignore the recommendations the Prophet Muhammad made during his late Hajj and have put the Quran and the Ahlul-Bayt aside based on ignorance.”

He stated, “We are on the anniversary of the great and important historical event of the Prophet Muhammad – the event of Ghadir – an event which is an extension of the propagation of the prophetic mission. Imamate is a issue that the Quran addresses and isn’t a new issue.”

Pointing out that Ghadir Khumm is a factual incident which has been proven in books and narrations and no one can deny it, Shaykh Habli added, “Ghadir Khumm is a mutawatir [mass transmitted narration] issue and it isn’t permissible to hide it. Day by day the story of Ghadir is being forgotten among Sunnis and is growing among the Shi’ah day by day. This is while this day belongs to all Muslims, not just Shi’ah or Sunnis.”

The head of the Ulfah Society of Lebanon spoke to the worshipers about the event of Ghadir Khumm and said, “The enemies and the haters of Ali distanced us from familiarity and the knowledge of the Ahlul-Bayt and therefore we don’t have much familiarity with this Holy Family. The Umayyad dynasty succeeded in this issue in such a way that Imam al-Shafi’i [the founder of the Shafi’i school of jurisprudence] was condemned as a Shi’ah and al-Nasa'i [the compiler of ‘Sunan al-Sughra’] was also killed for compiling a book on the virtues of Ali.”

Pointing out that Wahhabism is continuing the war against the Ahlul-Bayt, he continued, “Our diversion from the will of Ghadir isn’t just oppression to Ali but is also oppression to the Holy Quran. Although the Shi’ah haven’t paid attention to this issue, they also don’t show oppression to this Imam. If we don’t pay attention to all of the will of Ghadir, we have oppressed the Quran, the Ahlul-Bayt and Ali.”

Shaykh Habli said, “On the anniversary of this event, we should tell the Muslims that you have failed to fulfill the three pillars of the will of Ghadir – After the Prophet’s death, they separated from the Holy Quran, the Ahlul-Bayt were targeted and Ali also faced murder, war and was cursed on the pulpit and his followers were subjected to murder and displacement.”

In conclusion, he emphasized that all the Shi’ah and Sunni communities were involved in separation from the Quran and not paying attention to all the recommendations of Ghadir and on that basis, we witnessed the oppression of Imam Ali.
