RNA – Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi, an Iranian source of emulation, has issued a letter to Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, the most senior source of emulation in Iraq, on the eve of the complete liberation of Mosul, “We congratulate all seekers of truth throughout the world on the defeat and fall of Daesh.”
Iraqis are getting ready for nationwide celebrations as government forces are just blocks away from battles raging in the last few districts in Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, where members of the Daesh Takfiri militant group are dug in.
The recapture of Mosul, located some 400 kilometres north of the capital Baghdad, would mark the effective end of Daesh in Iraq.
In this letter, Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi referred to the “obligatory jihad” issued by Ayatollah al-Sistani in June 2014, wherein shortly after Daesh unleashed its terror campaign in Iraq, the topShi’ah authority in Iraq called on all Iraqi citizens to defend the country, its people, the honour of its citizens, and its sacred sites in the fight against terrorism.
The text of the renowned Iranian source of emulation’s statement is as follows:

“Indeed, We have inaugurated for you a clear victory” [The Holy Quran 48:1]
All praise be to God, the last trenches of the blasphemous and criminal Takfiri group, Daesh, have collapsed in Mosul and they have all been annihilated.
The liberation of Mosul, the second largest Iraqi city in Iraq, was not a small event! Mercenaries from all over the world have entered Iraq and with the establishment of the blasphemous Daesh state, the imperialist powers sought to create another cancerous tumour in the Islamic world to pose a permanent threat to the entire region.
Through this method, they blackmailed the Islamic countries of the region and expanded their illegitimate interests.
The fatwa of the source of emulation [Ayatollah al-Sistani] to establish the Popular Mobilization Forces, in collaboration with the brave Iraqi armed forces, marked the fate of the Daesh puppet government and the hidden support for this regime.
This fatwa, which was a continuation of the fatwa of ImamKhomeyni to establish the Basij Forces in Iran, was a historical epic and is a thorn in the eyes of the enemies of Islam and we hope that God-willing, the Popular Mobilization Forces will continue to defend Iraq’s security, independence and territorial integrity and will stay alongside the armed forces and will never abandon their designated duties!
The humiliating fall of Daesh’s self-proclaimed government is a lesson for all those who entertain their imaginations in the Islamic world and mobilize mercenaries from all over the world to create division in Islamic countries.
We offer our congratulations to the supreme religious authorities of Najaf and all the Iraqi authorities, Muslim people of this country, the armed forces and all the seekers of truth and freedom in the world on the liberation of Mosul and the fall of Daesh’s groundless government.
