RNA – In separate messages, the Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon, which is composed of Sunni and Shi’ah clerics of this country, issued letters congratulating the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei; Iranian President Hasan Rouhani and to Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad Fathali on Iran’s “glorious” May 19th presidential and city and village council elections.

In a message to Ayatollah Khamenei, the Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon wrote, “The Muslim and heroic nation of Iran proved that due to the grace your wise leadership, the country is at the height of awareness and adherence to the principles of Islam. Such a large presence at the polls isn’t seen in most of the countries which claim to be democracies.”

The group said the Iranian nation is a great model for the Islamic nations of the world who seek freedom and participation in determining the fate of their countries’ affairs and added, “These elections were a slap in the face of the arrogant powers of the world, especially the United States, who sought to encourage the people to boycott the election in protest of the Iranian system but the Iranian people rose up and demonstrated their strong support for the government and the foundations of the Islamic system.”

They stated, “We have thanked God for this victory and congratulate you in regard to this great achievement which boosts the morale of Muslims all over the world. You [the Iranian nation] have announced your adherence to your wise leader and in consideration to our activities regarding Islamic unity, we ask you to guide us.”

In a message to President Hasan Rouhani, the Association of Muslim Scholars said, “We congratulate you on your re-election and we ask God Almighty to help you stand against the projects of the arrogant powers being fought against the Islamic ummah, especially the conspiracies of the US and Zionists against the Iranian government, which is endorsed by the oppressed of the world.”

Lebanon’s Sunni and Shi’ah scholars added, “The arrogant powers are striving hard to spread sedition between the Sunni and Shi’ah Islamic sects. Since the establishment of the Association of Muslim Scholars, we have been fighting this sedition and strengthening Islamic unity.”

They noted, “We are confident that we will continue to defend the affairs of Muslims and the oppressed of the world, particularly the Palestinian cause, following the lifestyle of Imam Khomeyni and the guidelines of Ayatollah Khamenei.”

In a message to the Iranian ambassador in Beirut, the Association of Muslim Scholars described the holding of the Iranian elections as a “great victory” and expressed hope that the new government can be successful in carrying out its responsibilities under the watch of the nation.
