RNA – Speaking at the beginning of Wednesday’s meeting of board of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati referred to the statement by the late founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Ruhollah Khomeini, that “Khorramshahr was liberated by God,” he said that May 24, 1982 was “the day of conquest and power of Islam and the Islamic Revolution and honoured the memory of the martyrs and veterans.”


The president of the Assembly of Experts also emphasized on taking advantage of the remainder of the holy month of Sha’ban and said, “This month is the gateway to the blessings of Ramadhan.”


Ayatollah Jannati pointed to the ongoing events in Bahrain said, “If the Bahraini officials had even a small amount of understanding, politeness, respect and compassion, they wouldn’t attack the revered Grand Ayatollah Isa Qasim.”


He added that the crime of Ayatollah Qasim is that he seeks the dispensation of the peoples’ rights and establishment of justice and stressed, “Injustice is rampant in Bahrain but we hope one day we will witness the victory of the people of this country.”


The Iranian cleric and politician praised the epic participation of people in Iran’s May 19th presidential and city and village council elections and added, “On behalf of myself and the Assembly of Experts, I thank all the people who demonstrated that they are still alive and breathing and are loyal to Islam, the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Khamenei].”

 
Ayatollah Jannati said that due to the statements and encouragement of the Supreme Leader, the majority of the people participated in the elections and voted. 


He said the world realized that religious democracy dominates in our country and added, “This is contrary to the claims that the lies and hypocrisy which are raised in regard to this issue. In the Islamic Republic, religious democracy is real and the people who participated in elections and vote for whoever they wanted with full authority and liberty.”


The president of the Assembly of Experts stressed that in Iran, no one is forced to vote but rather the people vote freely with love and with a sense of religious and national duty.


Ayatollah Jannati said, “I confirm the soundness of the elections although violations also occurred and on the basis of reports by observers from near and far and some reports from the people and councils also have noted this issue.”


The secretary of the Guardian Council said some of the violations are natural and exist in all parts of the election process, both in the parliamentary and presidential elections. 


In conclusion, Ayatollah Jannati expressed hope, saying, “Just as the Supreme Leader said that the right to vote is the right of people, if someone, God forbid, has committed any act which violates the electoral process, he must repent.”
