RNA – A group of Muslim scholars in Bahrain have issued a statement in the wake of Bahrain’s chief prosecutor seeking the application of the harshest possible penalty for Ayatollah Isa Qasim, the leader of the Shi’ah majority of the tiny Persian Gulf country.

The statement said that the prosecutor’s request for the maximum penalty against Ayatollah Qasim for the reason that he sought to fulfill one of the most important Islamic religious obligations [khums] is considered a religious threat and targets the rituals and beliefs of the country’s Shi’ahs.

“The Al Khalifah regime seeks revenge against Shi’ahs because of their demands for their national political rights which are common to all religions,” they said.

The Bahrain Shi’ah scholars described this act as a flagrant aggression against religion and the Bahraini constitution and an example of the worst tyranny and added, “The public prosecutor of Bahrain is considered as an office of torture and fear and a means for the regime to destroy the revolution. Our religion is not threatened by the issuance of a verdict of capital punishment and we will give the last drop of blood to protect our religion.”

The statement emphasizes that this verdict is a brazen attack on the nation’s largest religious symbol and represents the pinnacle of hatred, pride, arrogance and contempt for the people and symbols by the Al Khalifah regime.

“The madness of the regime must be stopped before it reaches such a point where it will receive a firm blow from the people,” he said.

The Bahraini scholars addressed the Bahraini nation, saying, “The blessings of your prayers are quite tangible, just as the assistants of God appeared wearing shrouds before the protests, the presence of the people in the protests is the biggest achievement wherein the people can realize their values in regard to the protection of religion, dignity, honour, sanctities, retake their rights, achieve freedom, progress and the stability of the homeland.”

They said that the statement by Ayatollah Qasim that “the storm that has begun will never stop” has been repeated and if we want God’s assistance and the help of Imam al-Mahdi, we must continue on this path.

The Bahraini scholars stated that the Bahraini people must realize that threatening signs against Islam and the religious leader of the Shi’ahs of Bahrain have increased and the regime insists on imposing tragedies against religion and country.

“Thus, we call on all the zealous believers to be at the peak of awakening and mental readiness at all times and to get involved in the defense of Islam and their homeland,” they said.

They presented a plan for widespread and active presence on this arena and noted, “Trust in God, the strengthening of Islamic brotherhood and nation, compliance with the guidelines of the sources of emulations, adherence to religious laws (especially laws related to special circumstances), the defense of Ayatollah Qasim to the death and widespread participation in congregational prayers, mourning ceremonies and during the Days of Fatimiyyah must be given greater attention.”
