RNA – In a meeting with members of the Central Council of Iran’s Islamic Coalition Party, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi said, “We always pray and hope that you can establish a good coalition among conservatives.”
The Islamic Coalition Party is a conservative political party in Iran which favours economic liberalism.
The revered source of emulation said if all conservatives introduced one individual, there would be hope in regard to the election results but if several candidates are introduced, be sure that success cannot be achieved given the current situation.
Referring to the nature of Western democracy, Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi said one of the factors that leads to victory, both in our country and in countries like the United States, is deception and bluffing.
“Believers cannot exhibit such behaviour but such actions aren’t prohibited for non-believers. Unfortunately, these behaviours are derived from Western culture which our society has taken as an example,” he said.
His Eminence said today, if some individuals enter into the election race and make false promises to the people, it’s possible that they will attract large crowds. “The newly-president of the US [Donald Trump] entered the election race with the same game and we see today that the US, which is the world’s leading country in terms of wealth, chose the worst possible president because he engaged in deception and bluffing in order to get elected.”
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi said, “We didn’t create this type of behaviour because according to narrations from Imam Ali, our virtuous politicians have always stood against impious politicians like Mu’awiyah.”
Iran’s 12th presidential elections will be held on May 19th.
