RNA – Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad-Ali Mirzaei, the head of the Faculty of Regional Studies at Qom’s al-Mustafa International University, said during the first workshop held on the topic of “Making the Humanities Islamic” that becoming the source of academia in the world is one of the principles of the holistic universal religion of Islam and that this principle is conditional on the humanities being based on Islamic ideals and teachings.

By pointing to the fact that in the current global climate, no adequate Islamic academic system has been presented, he added, “Many of the insufficiencies and challenges that we see today in the Islamic world stems from the existence of weaknesses in the socialistic and humanistic fundamentals, theories and systems.”

The academic board member of al-Mustafa International University emphasized that the current human societal systems are the results of human thought and knowledge and stated, “The acquisition of becoming the Islamic academic source of the world is the great responsibility of the seminaries especially in the varying fields of the humanities.”

Hujjat al-Islam Mirzaei pointed to the different explanations and readings of basing the humanities on Islamic ideals that have been presented during the last century and explained, “The foundations of contemporary humanities is based upon the principles of secularism, so this issue cannot simply be solved by filling the textbooks with religious observations, but rather it need to be rebuilt using a different world view and foundation based upon divinity, and the civilizational dos and don’ts of this system must be placed as a priority to be studied.”
