RNA – Speaking during his jurisprudence course at Qom’s Grand Mosque, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi condemned the United States’ disloyalty in regard to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying, “By renewing the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA), the US has broken its promises. An American officials said ‘the Iranians must get used to the sanctions and we will impose more sanctions next year.’ We must stand against their bullying.”
The revered source of emulation stated that with the JCPOA, Iran surrendered many concessions to the other parties and cannot tolerate their cowardice and broken promises and said, “However, such statements don’t mean that we must act hastily but rather we must wait and see if they tear up the JCPOA or not.”
He added, “If they extend the sanctions, we should make appropriate decisions. However, from now on, our officials and politicians must be prepared to respond to the violations of the JCPOA, but we shouldn’t instigate any action which violates the agreement.”
In other remarks, Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi reacted to a statement by British Prime Minister Theresa May against Iran during a visit to Bahrain last Wednesday, where she claimed that “we must... work together to push back against Iran's aggressive regional actions” in an address at a Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) meeting, saying, “The Arab shaykhs are so simple-minded that they have been deceived by Western leaders.”
The revered teacher in the Islamic Seminary of Qom explained that if British leaders don’t speak ill of Iran, they cannot loot the Arabs’ wealth so they often deceive them by begging the shaykhs in a respectful manner.
He added that these Western leaders describe Iran as a grave threat to their countries and to their rule and say to these Arab shaykhs that they must purchase their weapons and promise their support to these regimes.
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi stressed, “This is the worst type of obtaining revenue. The Arab shaykhs must know the West are not loyal to their claims of support and Arab leaders should learn from this issue and be vigilant.”
