RNA – Ayatollah Abdul-Amir Qabalan, the vice president of the Supreme Shi’ite Council of Lebanon, condemned Sunday’s terrorist attack on Cairo’s Coptic Cathedral saying, “This is a barbaric act that is considered a crime against Muslims and Christians.”
The attack on the small church of St. Peter and St. Paul attached to the St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in the Egyptian capital’s Abbasiyah district, which occurred during Sunday mass, killed at least 25 people, among them women and children, and injured 49 others.
The Lebanese scholar added that this crime was a violation of human dignity and a violation against a place of worship and stressed that such an act is contrary to the teachings of all divine religions which strongly condemn all acts of violence and terrorism and attacks against humankind.
Ayatollah Qabalan offered his condolences to Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah al-Sisi and the Egyptian people, especially Christians, and prayed for compassion to the victims, a speedy recovery for the wounded and patience for their families.

In other remarks, Hujjat al-Islam Ahmad Qabalan, the Friday prayer leader of Burj al-Barajneh and the son of Ayatollah Qabalan, also condemned the blast and said that this attack was a crime against all morality, humanity and religion.
He added that the perpetrators of this terrorist attack are a group which we must fight against and are a dangerous pest which has nothing to do with religion.
It is believed that Takfiri terrorists, affiliated with Daesh, carried out the attack.
Hujjat al-Islam Qabalan stressed upon the necessity for regional and world leaders to take a brave and serious stance against the Takfiri phenomenon.
He noted that on Saturday, twin bomb attacks rocked the Turkish city of Istanbul, killing 38 people and wounding 155 more, a bomb blast killed 29 in Somali capital of Mogadishu on Sunday and the explosion of two deadly bomb blasts near a crowded marketplace in Nigeria’s northeastern city of Maiduguri.
His Eminence added that in these attacks, terrorists attacked and killed innocent people who weren’t affiliated with the military.
