RNA – In a message to mark International Human Rights Day, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, the chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, said that Human Rights Day has an important role in reminding the Iraqi people of the crimes by the former dictatorial governments in their country, especially those committed by Saddam Husayn and his Ba’athist regime, and the crimes of the current Takfiri terrorist phenomena fighting against the oppressed people of Iraq.
The Iraqi cleric stressed that victory over the Daesh Takfiri terrorists is near and added, “We ask the UN and the international community to support the Iraqi people in their fight against terrorism so that we can purge the country from the filth of terrorism as soon as possible.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Hakim said, “Throughout history, the Iraqi people have always made efforts toward the adoption and protection of human rights.”
Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on December 10th every year.
The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation, on December 10th, 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations and was adopted as a direct result of World War II.
