RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon’s al-Quds Mosque, Shaykh Maher Hammoud referred to the November 8th American presidential election and described the election of Donald Trump as a “surprise.”
In this regard, the president of the World Union of Resistance Scholars said, “In the opinion of many, Trump’s behaviour is similar to that of insane people but we see his victory as the defeat of the superior and condescending image of the United States in the world.”
He added that Trump’s victory is the same as a defeat for the mainstream media organizations in the world who predicted his defeat in the election and is considered as a defeat of rationality against spontaneity and science against ignorance.
Shaykh Hammoud said that Trump’s victory makes no difference for us but some of his public statements may have positive implications for us so we don’t have illusions of false peace.
The Lebanese Sunni cleric said that the Republican president-elect rejects the two-state solution and called on the Palestinians to live in coexistence with the Zionist state and against the right for Palestinians to establish a state.
He also added that Trump stressed on the right for Israel to build and expand their settlements. “We must increase our increase our belief in resistance and certainly we will be answered by the imminent demise of the Zionist regime,” he said.
Sidon’s Friday prayer leader noted that Trump’s position in regard to Takfiri terrorism is clear and he has noted that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are the founders and supporters of the Daesh phenomenon and has presented evidence in this regard.
Shaykh Hammoud explained that Trump has also stressed on the need to destroy terrorist groups and to cooperate with Russia and Syria in the fight against terrorism. “If his statements are true, the wars in Iraq and Syria should end very quickly,” he said.
His Eminence pointed out that Trump has been accused of having a friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said, “If this is true, it is hoped that the Cold War between the US and Russia will be reduced.”
