Lebanese Sunni Scholar:
Rasa – Shaykh Maher Hammoud said two streams of radical and extremist Sunnis and Shi’as extremists are seeking to destroy the efforts to create unity between the Sunni and Shi’a schools of thought.

RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon in Sidon’s al-Quds Mosque, Shaykh Maher Hammoud, the president of the secretary-general of the Union of Resistance Scholars, stressed upon the necessity for Islamic movements to adhere to the Islamic Resistance axis.

 

The Lebanese Sunni cleric said that disputes between Muslims derive from temptations from Satan and each Islamic group claims that their form of Islam is the correct form of Islam and all groups are outside the scope of religion.

 

He said two streams of radical and extremist Sunnis and Shi’as extremists are seeking to destroy the efforts to create unity between the Sunni and Shi’a schools of thought. 

 

Shaykh Hammoud added that extremist Wahhabis on one hand and extremist Shia movements on the other hand are both guilty of spreading heinous accusations which are always is renewed to coincide with the events and concepts which give rise to controversy, such as Ashura.

 

The president of the secretary-general of the Union of Resistance Scholars stressed that the creation of dissension and disunity among Muslims is part of the Western conspiracy against Islam and said: “These plots were hatched in London, Washington and Tel Aviv and some individuals and Islamic parties implement them, whether they know it or not.”

 

His Eminence called for all sides to stop their political insults, accusations and ridicule and stated “He who seeks to prove the authenticity of their religion, sect, doctrine or movement must present their achievements to the Islamic ummah in a respectful manner instead of engaging in vain and worthless controversy.”

 

He added, “There is no doubt that the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon and Palestine has done the best work in this regard and embraces the stances and comparisons among the various Islamic parties.”

 

At the end of his Friday prayer sermon, Shaykh Hammoud referred to Saudi Arabia’s bombing of a funeral hall in Yemen and denounced the continuing Saudi crimes against the innocent people of this war-torn and impoverished country and stated that the killing of civilians is not connected to any religion nor Islamic or human thought.
