RNA – Shaykh Akram al-Ka’bi, the Secretary-General of the Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba [“Movement of the Party of God’s Nobles”] Islamic Resistance group held a meeting with Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, the Secretary-General of the World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, in Tehran, where he referred to Daesh’s intellectual bases saying: “Daesh has intellectual and public bases in some areas of Iraq. We will not be able to completely defeat Daesh if we do not eliminate these bases.”

Shaykh al-Ka’bi pointed at the formation of the Popular Mobilization Forces as a way to fight Daesh and clarified: “The Popular Mobilization Forces represents all the Islamic Resistance groups in Iraq. These groups are powerful because of their jihadi ideology and their trainings. The Popular Mobilization Force’s power relies on these Resistance groups.”

Describing al-Nujaba’s jihadi ideology, Shaykh al-Ka’bi stated: “We follow Wilayat al-Faqih under the leadership of Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei and will be present wherever the Resistance is needed.”

Clarifying Daesh’s fate, the Iraqi cleric said: “After losing war in Iraq this group will operate as a threat to security and will target civilians in Iraq. We have to take serious measure to tackle it.”

Stressing on the intellectual fight with Daesh he said: “After a number of military operations, the Americans announced that al-Qaeda has been eliminated. However, in order to uproot terrorism, the intellectual roots have to be removed. To achieve this, we must focus on Islamic unity and the proximity between Islamic schools of thought.”

Shaykh al-Ka’bi added: “There are politicians in Iraq who seek success through sectarianism and are connected to the US, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. These politicians tried to ask radical Sunni clergymen to go to recently liberated areas, especially to Fallujah, but we strongly disagreed with this.”

Arguing that the solution to sectarianism in Iraq is to attract moderate Sunni figures, he stressed “In order to achieve this we formed the Deputy for the Proximity of Religions and Schools of thought in al-Nujaba and took moderate Sunni scholars to the newly liberated areas to teach and purify people.”

Shaykh al-Ka’bi concluded, saying, “We even formed battalions in al-Nujaba consisting of Sunnis from Fallujah and Tikrit. They helped us a lot in the liberation operations of these areas. it is our policy to have more connection with Sunnis. We opened Sunni mosques in Shi’a areas and will protect them.”
