RNA – Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi has reacted to the attempts made by some notorious groups in the United Kingdom to spread dissension between Muslims and noted that contributing to the preparation and publication of the film “The Day of Torture” is a great sin.
In response to a question by a group of his followers, Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi has issued a religious decree.
The question from a group of His Eminence’s followers is:
In the Name of God, The Most High
Dear Grand Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi:
Salaamun ‘Alaykum,
As you are aware, a few months ago, one of the Arabic-language television networks [Fadak TV] which is headquartered in the United Kingdom, called on the Shi’as of the world to donate millions of pounds to fund a feature film called “The Day of Torture.”
The head of this network [Yasser al-Habib] has long history of blaspheming the holy personalities of our Sunni brothers and the stated purpose of the film is as follows:
“The film will be produced by the most prominent Western directors and artists and will explain the life of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (S), especially after the death of the Prophet (S). For the first time in the world, the people of the world will see how the first caliph and his companions attacked Lady Fatimah’s home and disrespected her! This film will destroy the mythical character of the caliphs (two shaykhs). This movie will show the difference between true Islam and deviated Islam (i.e. the Islam of Saqifah). We have sworn to take revenge for Lady Fatimah (S).”

Due to the great efforts to promote this film and to attract donations to produce it, please issue a religious edict in regard to supporting, promoting and watching such a film.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi’s reply is follows:
In the Name of God, the Most High
No doubt, those who have contributed to preparing and publishing this film or watch it, have committed a cardinal sin. Especially in the current situation where any dissension between Muslims is a victory for the enemies of Islam, actions have heavy legal responsibilities and are likely to be the work of the enemies of Islam (the film is produced by them). They have planned and any blood which has been shed in this regard, all those who have assisted are partners in it.
You must announce to all people that those who seek to create such divisive programs are not from us. Unfortunately, they exploit the devotion of a group of lovers of Ahlul-Bayt (A), especially lovers of the great lady of Islam, Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (S), and the message that this film portrays is not the message of Islam and the Shi’a of the Ahlul-Bayt (A).
