RNA – Speaking at Qom’s Imam Kazem Seminary on the Night of Destiny, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi said that the Nights of Power contain so many great blessings that we must be thankful to God for.
The revered source of emulation stated that two chapters of the Holy Quran speak of the Night of Destiny, one is al-Qadr [Destiny], which all of it is about the Night of Destiny and also, the first four verses of al-Dukhan [Smoke] address it as well.
He explained that two major events occur on the Night of Destiny – one of these events is the revelation of the Holy Quran. In regard to this, a question arises in regard to the beginning of mission of the Prophet Muhammad, who was appointed as the prophet on the 27th of the month of Rajab and the first verse of the Holy Quran was revealed on the Night of Destiny. “So, why it is said that the Quran was revealed on the Night of Destiny?” he said.
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi added that some traditions say that the Quran was revealed on the Night of Destiny in the heavenly realm. Perhaps the revelation descended into the heart of the Prophet or upon the angels who communicated with him in totality and then was revealed part by part throughout his prophethood. The Quran is the constitution of Islam and everything we have is from it.
The source of emulation also said that the life, words and actions of Imam Ali are models for Muslims and Shi’as and we must learn lessons of piety, courage, truth, asceticism and indifference to wealth and this worldly life from the Commander of the Faithful.
In conclusion, Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi said that Shi’as shouldn’t have a fear of being alone on the right path as God is with them in all circumstances and added that the Islamic world has been the focus of the enemies’ plots and in order to repel the evil enemies and save the Islamic world, we must pray during the Night of Destiny.
