RNA – On May 2nd, Azerbaijani authorities completely destroyed the Imam al-Zaman Shi’a seminary in the city of Nardaran.

 

Authorities backed by police forces destroyed the Imam al-Zaman Seminary under the pretext of expanding the street, while according to the witnesses the seminary is located at the end of an alley and does not need to expand.

 

The Imam al-Zaman Seminary is located near the shrine of Rahimah Khatun. 

 

Activist and elders of Nardaran condemned these barbaric act and announced to file a complaint to judicial authorities.

 

Last year Azerbaijani security forces attacked a mourning ceremony for Imam Husayn in Nardaran which five Shi’as were martyred and tens of others were injured and arrested. The regime also desecrated the symbols of Shi’a Muslims. 

 

More than 150 Shi’a activists including 18 clerics are in prisons of Azerbaijan without any charges. Azerbaijan has a population of approximately 10 million people, 85% of them are Shi’a Muslims.
